Naples roommate killer kicked from courtroom for outburst before receiving life sentence

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Amanda Cook, a Naples woman who was found guilty of second-degree murder, was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday after several outbursts in the courtroom during her hearing.

When Cook entered the courtroom she could be heard calling the court a satanic synagogue, among other things. The judge kicked her out of the room before she could hear her sentence.

"Woah! Woah! Just got busted! Get down, they're coming in!" Cook screamed before leaving the courtroom.

Cook was convicted of second-degree murder on Dec. 12 after beating her 64-year-old roommate to death with a cast-iron microphone stand in 2019.

The incident happened inside a residence the two shared, and authorities said Cook ran to her mother’s nearby home after the attack. Her mother later called 911 after the two returned to the scene.

Investigators with the Collier County Sheriff's Office said the victim’s DNA was found on the base of the microphone stand, while Cook’s fingerprint and DNA were located near the top and above the base. A medical examiner testified the victim’s injuries were consistent with those seen in high-impact car crashes.
