Lee County Sheriff's Office warns of jury duty scam

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

The Lee County Sheriff's Office posted a notice to residents alerting them to a jury duty scam.

LCSO said that if someone calls a resident saying they missed jury duty, have a warrant and need to pay a fine immediately, it is a scam.

Real law enforcement will never call a resident like a debt collector, threaten arrest over the phone or ask for money, gift cards, Zelle, Cash App, Venmo or other "urgent payments," LCSO said.

LCSO said if residents receive a call like this, they should hang up. Don't pay, don't give any information, and then report the number to LCSO's fraud line at 239-258-3292.
