Naples approves Pride Fest permit for 2026, keeps indoor drag show requirement

NAPLES, Fla. —

Naples Pride Fest will return to Cambier Park this April after the Naples City Council unanimously approved a special event permit, but drag performances will once again be required to take place indoors and be limited to adults only.

The vote came Wednesday during a city council meeting that drew supporters and protesters, with an hour of public comment focused largely on the drag show restriction.

The indoor-only requirement has been in place since 2023 and remains a point of contention between the city and Naples Pride organizers, who are still in active litigation challenging the rule.

Despite the debate, council members voted unanimously to approve the permit for the annual festival, which is scheduled for April 18 at Cambier Park.

Naples police also addressed security concerns during the meeting, citing guidance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that considers Cambier Park a vulnerable location. Police said additional safety planning is required for events of this size.

Naples Pride’s attorney said organizers are disappointed the drag performances will not be allowed on the main stage at Cambier Park for a third consecutive year. However, the group pointed to a recent legal development as a positive step forward.

Earlier this week, a federal judge denied the city’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Naples Pride, writing in court records that drag performance is protected under the First Amendment.

While the legal challenge continues, Naples Pride Fest will move forward as planned, with drag performances expected to be held indoors.
