Naples fire crews battle intense Pompei Lane blaze, save nearby homes

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A commercial structure fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Friday at a building on Pompei Lane, officials said.

The first fire unit on scene encountered heavy fire coming from a bedroom window. Fire crews began suppression efforts while additional units, assisted by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, evacuated adjacent units as a precaution. The homeowner had already evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.

After crews entered, incident commanders determined the residence was in hoarding conditions, which initially made access to the fire room difficult. Command then transitioned to a defensive strategy, using a transitional attack by applying water through a window to knock down the fire.

Once conditions improved and a path was cleared, firefighters established an interior hose line and fully extinguished the fire. Officials said the blaze did not spread to neighboring units, crediting tactical decisions by command and coordinated efforts with the City of Naples Fire Department, which assisted with a primary search and hose line placement and management.

The homeowner reported minor injuries and smoke inhalation. After evaluation by North Collier Fire Rescue medics, the individual was transported to a local hospital.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
