Winter weather disrupts flights at RSW Airport, travelers on edge

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Frustration was evident at RSW Airport as travelers faced disruptions due to winter weather. The airport brought in therapy dogs to offer stress relief, providing pets and hugs to stranded passengers.

Travelers closely monitored departure boards, double-checking their flight status before proceeding through security. Some were forced to cancel their travel plans, while others took a chance, hoping to avoid the snow.

"This morning, at about 9 a.m., we got notification from Southwest that our flight was canceled," said Gene Sweeney, a traveler from Alabama.

"They were showing us all the different options, flying into other hub airports, and they all look bad. Everything in the southeast looks horrible, except for Orlando," Sweeney added.

Karen Skierski, a traveler from Michigan, shared her concerns about the weather.

"It's bitterly cold. It's in single digits, and I looked at the forecast, and it literally is going to snow every single hour," said Skierski.

She expressed relief that her flight was not canceled, saying, "We really thought our flight would be canceled. We've been watching it, and it's not. So I take that as a hit in a small lottery."

Airlines are urging travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport as winter weather continues to impact routes across the country.
