Body of missing diver recovered near Manasota Beach

MANASOTA KEY, Fla. —

The search for a missing 66-year-old diver came to a tragic conclusion on Sunday when his body was found near Manasota Beach.

The Coast Guard announced it was using air and surface crews to search for a missing diver near Manasota Key after he was reported missing at around 12:20 p.m.

The Englewood Area Fire Control District announced at around 4:33 p.m. that the search was over, and the diver's body had been found.

EFD said the diver entered the water around 9:30 a.m., failed to return to shore, and was reported missing by a friend.

Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including EFD, USCG, Venice Fire Department, Venice Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, Sarasota Police Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
