Celtic Festival brings record crowds to downtown Fort Myers

DOWNTOWN FORT MYERS, Fla. - Downtown Fort Myers was buzzing with excitement as the 22nd Annual Celtic Festival took place at the Caloosa Sound Amphitheater on Sunday.

Live music along the riverfront set the mood, with festivalgoers dancing and enjoying the sunshine. The festival featured vendors, food, and plenty of beer.

One of the main attractions this year was the Highland Games, where athletes showcased their strength and skill. Organizers emphasized the historical significance of these events.

"The Highland Games actually predate the Olympics," said Russell Overton, athletic director of the Foundation of Scottish Athletes.

"Everything we do has some type of military background to it. The weights for height, throwing ropes over castle walls to climb caber," Overton said.

For many attendees, the festival is about more than just competition.

"It’s like a family reunion every year," said Brian Craig, event manager for the City of Fort Myers.

Craig also highlighted the festival's growth and popularity.

"We had a record turnout yesterday," Craig said.

"It started as a passion project for some of the original organizations… we’ve continued to grow and grow each year," said Craig.

The Celtic Festival ended at 6 p.m.
