Golden Gate trash pile sparks debate, county seeks resolution

In Golden Gate, a growing pile of trash has become the talk of the neighborhood. Residents are concerned not only about the unsightly mess but also about how long it has been there and why nothing has changed.

Sari McMahon, a neighbor who has lived in the area for 25 years, expressed her frustration.

"It's frustrating. It's very frustrating," said McMahon. "Every time it gets really windy, you know, you see it blowing around, and you worry about what it's going to do."

She passes by the property almost every day and is most frustrated by how long the situation has gone unaddressed.

"Just pick it up. Do what you're supposed to do. They should have a dumpster there," said McMahon.

Neighbors reported the property to code enforcement last year, but they say nothing has changed.

WINK News reached out to the county with these concerns, prompting staff to visit the property twice in one day.

Elizabeth Mulvaney, who lives across the street, has a different perspective.

"It's been a few months or more, but it didn't bother me," said Mulvaney. "Things take time. People run into problems. Be patient. Look at your own property. Is it the most perfect? Mine isn't."

For now, the construction debris remains, and neighbors continue to wait for a resolution.

The county is working to gather more information on the property's status with code enforcement.
