Pride Cape Coral could relocate two-day event to new location

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral's Pride Parade, which promotes inclusion and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community, could be relocating from SE 47th Terrace to Lafayette Street, with the festival and performance stage moving to a large lot behind Nice Guys Pizza.

Melissa Moore, a board member with Pride Cape Coral, said, "We did lose some funding that we have used in the past that did directly go to police enforcement during our events. So we're kind of trying to pick up the pieces and find funding other places. It was a grant. So we're really kind of leaning heavily on sponsorship this year."

The new parade route will be open to the public, while the festival will be enclosed and ticketed to help cover security costs.

"I think it's going to be really nice because our event has always been completely open. And, now it's going to be enclosed. It is ticketed, which we haven't done in the past, but that also helps us pay for the security that an event like this really needs," Moore said.

Pride Cape Coral is still awaiting permit approval from the city.
