Video shows motorcyclist hit, left in road as cars drive by in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A Lehigh Acres woman who says she regularly sees traffic crashes outside her home captured a violent motorcycle collision on video this week — and this one, she says, was different.

Nereida Franco recorded the moment a motorcyclist was struck by a car near the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Colin Avenue North. The video shows the rider skidding across the roadway before crawling toward the sidewalk to avoid being hit by passing vehicles.

“It broke my heart,” Franco said. “As a community, we should be here for our people. Especially when you see a human being laying on the ground screaming — why drive around?”

Franco said the crash happened directly in front of her home and that several drivers continued past the injured rider without stopping. She said her husband told her a nurse in a white vehicle eventually pulled over and helped the man until emergency crews arrived.

In a 911 call, a woman can be heard telling the rider not to move while waiting for first responders.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene. The sheriff’s office he was rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition has not been released.
