Hendry County Sheriff's Office releases statement on Clewiston City Hall Raid

CLEWISTON - The Hendry County Sheriff's Office has released a statement regarding the investigation that led to the Clewiston City Hall raid.

The investigation began in 2025 after authorities received several tips and complaints regarding business practices within the building.

According to HCSO, the investigation focuses on white-collar crime, which is nonviolent but may result in financial gain or business advantage. They are working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough process.

WINK Investigates uncovered that the raid was related to an alleged bid tampering investigation. Bid tampering, as defined under Florida Statute 838.22, involves an attempt by public officials to improperly influence the competitive solicitation process for public contracts.

The statement reads in part:

"Our Investigators are having to go through thousands of documents, including emails and text messages that have been extracted from computers and cell phones; they also must continue to thoroughly investigate other crimes that occur within the county and investigate these crimes in a manner that they are successfully prosecuted for these victims as well."

Officials say they are working with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough process.
