The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested a Bonita Springs man on child sexual abuse image charges.
The FDLE says that it initiated an investigation into Jeffery Howard Oppold, 69, in December, when agents conducted an online operation aimed at identifying individuals sharing child sexual abuse material on a sharing network.
According to the FDLE, investigators identified an IP address downloading files depicting the sexual abuse of children. They say that the investigation revealed that the IP address was connected to Oppold.
On Tuesday, FDLE agents conducted a search warrant for Oppold's residence and seized an electronic device. They say a forensic analysis identified multiple files of child sexual abuse material on the device.
Oppold was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is facing 15 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search warrant operation.
