LABELLE - A cold front is sweeping into Southwest Florida this weekend, and folks in LaBelle are gearing up in their own unique ways.
Outside the LaBelle Walmart, Alejandro Rodriguez decided to stock up on groceries and warm food to stay cozy at home. "Most of the time we like to do all the shopping on Saturday or Sunday, but we decided that tonight, because we don't know how we're going to be tomorrow," said Rodriguez. He added, "Soup. We love soup."
On the other hand, Eduardo Marcano, who has experienced harsher winters in upstate New York, is unfazed by the cooler temperatures. "I love this weather," said Marcano. "I don't see why people are afraid of little cold like this."
For some, like 10-year-old Cassandra Constain, the cold front is more of an adventure. "I want to see snow," she said.
However, local fire officials are urging caution. LaBelle is currently under a burn ban, and firefighters warn that dry grass and wind make illegal bonfires risky. "With it being so cold, the wind can just pick up sparks from the fire, and it'll just start a brush fire," said volunteer firefighter Samuel Santillana. He advised, "Even though it seems like the perfect time to… start a bonfire and cook up some s’mores, I would say, please do not."
Residents are encouraged to stay indoors, bundle up and prioritize safety.
