Extreme cold leaves thousands without power across Southwest Florida Monday

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Thousands are without power across Southwest Florida due to extreme cold weather on Monday morning.

According to Florida Power & Light's Power Tracker map, 833 outages are reported in Collier County and 4,535 outages are reported in Lee County as of 9:35 a.m.

Earlier Monday morning, 5,101 outages were reported in Lee County, as well as 3,528 outages in Collier County.

When asked about the outages, FPL provided the following statement:

"FPL crews remain actively deployed across Southwest Florida, responding to localized outages. During extreme cold weather, home heating systems can use two to three times more electricity than air conditioning, which can place added strain on neighborhood equipment and contribute to localized outages. Customers should report outages at FPL.com or by calling 800-4OUTAGE (800-468-8243). You can find the most up-to-date outage information by visiting FPL.com/PowerTracker."
