A Collier County man was arrested for fatally shooting his 13-year-old son at an apartment complex near Naples Manor in July 2025.
Gregory Anthony Zecca, 39, was arrested Tuesday and is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, investigators determined that Zecca consumed alcohol for several hours at an establishment and later had alcohol and marijuana at a friend's residence along Sumter Grove Way.
Deputies said at that time, Zecca and his son were watching a UFC fight on TV. According to the sheriff's office, Zecca repeatedly handled a firearm and practiced drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing with the child present.
The CCSO said the firearm was initially rendered safe by removing the magazine and clearing a live round from the chamber.
According to deputies, the magazine was reinserted at some point, and a round was chambered, and Zecca discharged a single shot that fatally struck his son.
Deputies noted the odor of alcohol on Zecca when they responded, and they saw marijuana in plain view. Two search warrants were then obtained for medical records and a blood draw.
According to the CCSO, Zecca's blood alcohol concentration was estimated to be approximately 0.116% at the time of the shooting. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08%, and a toxicologist concluded that Zecca was impaired by alcohol.
The sheriff's office said the aggravated manslaughter charge that Zecca is facing carries a potential life sentence in prison.
