Man accused of attempting to enter unoccupied vehicle in Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A Lee County man was arrested after he was accused of attempting to enter an unoccupied vehicle early Friday morning in Lehigh Acres.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office's arrest report, Dave Elius, 24, was arrested on 11th Street Southwest. Deputies made contact with the victim, who said there was an unknown man pulling on the door handles of a vehicle in the driveway and feared the vehicle would be stolen.

The sheriff's office said they saw a man who matched the victim's description and was accused of running away. Deputies attempted to get the man to stop near 11th Street SW, but he continued into a wooded area.

With the help of a K-9, they eventually tracked the man down in that area and after deputies say the man didn't respond to commands, the K-9 bit the man on his right foot.

The man, Elius, was arrested after being accused of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance unarmed and obstruction, resisting without violence, the sheriff's office said.

According to LCSO, Elius had loose cash and change when he was searched, and they were submitted as evidence of potential stolen property.

Deputies said they asked around the area in case there were other vehicles that this happened to, and someone had the same experience, as video cameras showed. Elius matched the description of that as well, according to the sheriff's office.

Elius is facing charges of two counts of burglary to an unoccupied conveyance unarmed and a count of obstruction, resisting without violence. He was bonded out Saturday.
