Fort Myers police say Michael Smith broke into the La Hidrocalida food truck twice, leaving the business still recovering from the incidents.
Seydi Ramirez, a worker at La Hidrocalida, expressed her disbelief, saying, "Never thought I would come in and see that we were robbed or anything."
Newly obtained video shows Smith approaching the La Hidrocalida food truck at the corner of Fowler and Linhart on Jan. 23, just past 5 a.m. Ramirez recounted the second break-in, stating, "That wasn’t the worst thing because he came back Wednesday of last week. I think he was waiting for us to leave, and then he came back. The door was unlocked, trash was all over the place."
Ramirez shared that they are still recovering from the incident, currently without a register, and are paying for all the damages. Just last night, another food truck owner reported a similar incident where Smith broke a window to steal money from Sabor de Mi Rancho.
Police have arrested Smith, who confessed to three food truck burglaries. Despite the robbery, Ramirez said, "I don’t want the food truck to be known only for the robbery, I want the truck to be known for good food." La Hidrocalida is planning to open a second truck in North Fort Myers next week.
