NAPLES - Naples voters are heading to the polls with a variety of personal motivations. Some are concerned about traffic and the environment, but a common theme is the desire to keep Naples a special place to live.
The Collier County Supervisor of Elections reported approximately 33% voter turnout so far. A spokesperson said their team would post the first set of preliminary results about 30 minutes after the polls close at 7 p.m.
Eight candidates are vying for three spots on the Naples City Council. Some voters found it challenging to choose among the candidates due to their talent. Once voting wraps up, the top three candidates will each serve a four-year term on the council.
Suzanne Worthington, a Naples resident, shared her perspective on the importance of environmental issues.
"I do volunteer work at Rookery Bay, and environment is important to me. So, whatever they can do to keep the environment and keep it like it is. It's important," said Worthington.
When asked if this impacted her vote, Worthington said, "Yes."
Ellie Krauter, another resident, emphasized "resiliency, safety and keeping Naples as beautiful and wonderful as it's been." She added, "I feel very excited about, again, a wonderful outpouring of talent here at the City Council, and I feel excited about the candidates that I chose."
For those who still plan to vote, there is time left. Voters must cast their ballots at their assigned precincts. Those in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.
Voter precincts can be found on voter information cards or at CollierVotes.gov.
