ESTERO, Fla.—The threat of rain did not deter the Copperleaf community in Estero from coming together for a good cause.
More than 200 people united in a walk to support the Harry Chapin Food Bank, ensuring it has the resources needed to provide food to those in need.
"The food bank is special to people in Copperleaf. We've been supporting it for so many years, and people know that people right outside the community are in need of the food because of the high cost of living down here in southwest Florida," said Bill Starr of the Copperleaf Charitable Foundation.
Jim and Marybeth Roane, of Roane Travel Design, were the top donors for the event this year.
"Every business that we own, from our travel agency to Africa, to our lodges in Africa, the number one objective is to employ, empower, and protect the people of the local community," said Jim Roane.
"Jim and I were both raising families where we were taught that God blesses you to be a blessing to others, and we have been so richly blessed," said Marybeth Roane.
Cars lined up to drop off food and financial contributions, loading up a truck with more than 3,000 pounds of food.
"We'd like to present a check for $60,000 to March to a Million Meals," said Bill Starr.
The donation ensures 120,000 meals will reach children, seniors, and working families in Southwest Florida.
"They've raised so much money over the last 20-plus years. I can't tell you enough how much it means to me to be a part of this," said Josh Petrosky, general manager of Copperleaf.
"They're such terrific supporters for the food bank. It's wonderful to see all the enthusiasm people are showing to support their neighbors in the community," said Richard Leber, CEO of the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.
The Copperleaf community's dedication to supporting their neighbors is a testament to their commitment to making a difference.
