FWC, other agencies respond to kayaker in distress near Sanibel Causeway

SANIBEL, Fla. —

Crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and other agencies are investigating after they responded to a watercraft in distress in Sanibel on Wednesday.

According to FWC, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the Sanibel Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Lee County EMS responded to a single-vehicle incident near the Sanibel Causeway.

They add that one person was found unresponsive in the water near an overturned kayak just outside of the Causeway. CPR was performed on the individual, and they were later transported to a nearby hospital.

FWC said that this is an active investigation with them as the lead agency. They said that an update will be provided as more details become available.
