Lehigh Acres man arrested for racing at 108 MPH on Lee Boulevard, FHP says

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A man was arrested for street racing at 108 mph on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that Abdallah Hasan reached this speed while racing another driver.

Residents expressed their concerns about the speeding issue. "You can kill somebody, look at the traffic that's coming through here," said Dennis Reid, a Lehigh Acres resident. Another resident, Nariah Delgado, commented, "Like this, it doesn't make any sense."

Lt. Greg Bueno of the Florida Highway Patrol emphasized the recklessness of the act, saying, "You can't tell me that someone pushing on that gas pedal hard enough to get your car well over 100 mph, doubling the speed limit, that you're not aware that you're doing something wrong in the moment."

Hasan was stopped by a trooper near the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Joan Avenue after midnight. The traffic stop was captured on security footage from RS Discount Liquor, whose manager, Danesh Pothuyal, was surprised by the incident.

"No, it was crazy. I can't believe he drove 108 mph. Over here, we can do only 45 over here," Pothuyal said. He added, "Lehigh is getting crazy now."

Hasan faces charges of street racing and super speeding, and his Hyundai will be impounded for 30 days.

"This kid was almost lucky that he met a trooper before he caused a tragedy." Lt. Bueno remarked.

Troopers noted that the other driver involved in the race managed to escape.
