Dive team investigation in Fort Myers pond raises questions for locals

FORT MYERS, Fla.—Fort Myers police blocked off part of Hough Street for hours as they investigated a scene involving a retention pond. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office dive team assisted in the ongoing investigation.

Crime scene tape cordoned off a section of Hough Street while marked vehicles lined the street. Multiple divers, equipped with metal detectors, searched the shallow retention pond.

Adrien Bermudez, a neighbor, expressed his surprise at the scene.

"Honestly, it was just that I saw a bunch of cop cars. Some of them are in, like, scuba gear, getting in the pond, just looking for something. I don't know what. Honestly, I saw all the tape, caution tape earlier too, so that was kind of weird,” said Bermudez.

The Fort Myers Police Department confirmed the involvement of the Lee County Sheriff's Office dive team but has not disclosed any details.

The investigation remains ongoing.
