Neumann football coach reflects of Super Bowl win with Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks arrived in Santa Clara with a clear mission: to win their second Super Bowl title. St. John Neumann head football coach Chris Maragos knows firsthand about the team's first championship victory during the 2013 season when they defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48, as he was a safety on that team.

"It was one of those moments where you just have to pinch yourself," said Chris Maragos. "Because you can't believe it's happening. You can't believe you're in that moment but you just appreciate it for what it is and enjoy every second of it."

Maragos reminisced about the journey to that victory.

"We kind of had a team that all started their careers either young or got traded into the organization," Maragos said. "So we kind of started that nucleus. So to build it up with Coach Carroll's vision was phenomenal and to win the way that we did and to dominate the way that we did was really special. Moments I'll never forget for the rest of my life."

He recalled the moments leading up to kickoff and when he realized the game was in their favor.

"We just went around and shared the gratefulness that we had to be in that moment," said Maragos. "I just remember those times and those conversations just seeing the expressions of each guy on what it took individually. Everybody knows of course individually what it takes. And it takes your whole life, whole being to do it. But then to hear other guys express it, you just knew you can't let that guy down."

Maragos added, "At halftime we were feeling good, but on the opening kickoff in the second half, Percy Harvin returned it for a touchdown. At that point we knew we had the dagger in them. And from then on it was just celebrating and enjoying the moment."

Maragos, who also won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017, now watches as his Seahawks aim for their second ring.

"I'm really happy and excited for the fan base, for the area," said Maragos. "You know living there being entrenched in the community and the culture and the team, you really understand how much it means for the people in the Pacific Northwest. So to see them get to enjoy these moments you couldn't be any happier and my Hawks got to go get it done."

The Seahawks' pursuit of another Super Bowl victory has ignited excitement among fans, with Maragos cheering them on from Southwest Florida.
