Fort Myers mother convicted of causing infant’s fentanyl overdose sentenced to 6 years in prison

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Fort Myers mother convicted of causing her infant’s fentanyl overdose will spend six years in state prison, followed by nine years of state probation.

The Lee County judge sentenced Mary Sinopoli on Monday, Feb. 2.

Fort Myers Police responded to a call for service about a baby not breathing in February 2024.

Officers encountered the driver, who was rushing a baby to the hospital on the side of the road near Lee Tran Boulevard and Metro Parkway around 1:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive baby and immediately began CPR. The baby regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital by EMS.

Narcan was then administered due to the baby showing signs of an overdose.

Police say, through evidence from the family's home, medical records showing the baby positive for fentanyl, and statements, they had probable cause to arrest Mary Sinopoli for aggravated child abuse.
