Once-a-week watering now in effect in parts of Charlotte County

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. —

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has declared a modified phase two water shortage, affecting DeSoto County and parts of Charlotte County, like Charlotte Harbor.

Water officials say the region did not receive enough rainfall last year, leaving the area about 13 inches below average. As a result, water levels in aquifers, rivers, and lakes are continuing to decline.

Under the new restrictions, residents are limited to watering their lawns just once a week.

The designated watering day is determined by the last number of a home's address, with assigned days falling between Monday and Friday.

Watering is only permitted from midnight to 8 a.m. or from 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.

The rules apply to all residents, including those who use private wells.

Officials recommend checking with your city or county government for details specific to your area and to confirm your assigned watering day.

The modified phase two water shortage restrictions will remain in effect through July 1.
