18-year-old arrested in Lehigh Acres, accused of driving 106 mph

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. —

A man was arrested in Lehigh Acres on Saturday after being accused of driving almost double the speed limit.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was patrolling the area of SR-82 near Sunshine Boulevard at around 9:05 p.m.

The deputy then saw a white Hyundai Elantra speed past, traveling east on SR-82. The deputy activated their radar and logged the Elantra's speed at 106 mph, almost double the speed limit of 55 mph, LCSO said.

The deputy pursued the car, as it wove in and out of slower traffic. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the car and identified the driver as Jaime Beltran Acosta, 18.

Acosta was arrested under Florida's "Super Speeder" law.
