Puerto Rican tribute at Super Bowl halftime show stirs emotions

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) — The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, but the halftime show also drew widespread attention. The performance’s visuals and surprise moments sparked conversation long after the game ended.

"The worst one they have ever had," said Allen Babcock, a local.

The performance served as a tribute to Puerto Rican life, using familiar scenes, music, and neighborhood imagery to tell a larger story. It opened with images of green sugarcane fields and workers in straw hats, reflecting Puerto Rico’s agricultural heritage, while traditional instruments highlighted the island’s musical roots.

A real wedding was staged to symbolize community, love, and togetherness.

Lady Gaga made an appearance, performing a salsa-style version of "Die with a Smile."

In a symbolic gesture, Bad Bunny handed his Grammy trophy to a child, representing hope for the next generation.

"I felt identified, I believe that Latinos here, maybe many people don’t see it, but we have an internal strength to push forward all those dreams we bring from our countries," said Laura Suarez, another local.

President Donald Trump expressed his displeasure on Truth Social, labeling it the worst Super Bowl halftime show ever, claiming, "No one understood a word of it, and there was nothing inspirational about it."

The performance also touched on current issues in Puerto Rico, such as the power grid.

"Puerto Rico should not be suffering from electrical problems, poor water management from hospitals barely surviving, that shouldn’t be happening, we may not be a state, but we are still Puerto Rican, and we are American," said Eve Ayllon.

Bad Bunny concluded the show by listing countries across the Americas and holding up a football with the words "Together We Are America." The performance ended with the message, "The only thing stronger than hate is love."

"I wish my parents were still alive to have seen it," Ayllon added.
