Rep. Greg Steube introduces Air Quality Act into Congress

WASHINGTON —

U.S. Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) introduced the Air Quality Act on Monday.

According to a press release from the office of Steube, the legislation would prohibit any weather modification activities in the United States and would establish clear federal guidelines to protect air quality, public health and environmental integrity.

According to the press release, governments around the world, including the U.S., have been exploring weather modification techniques such as geoengineering and cloud seeding.

Steube said that the private interest and investment in atmospheric and climate intervention technologies has increased significantly, showcasing the need for clearer rules, oversight and accountability.

"Just as we place strict standards on water quality, the same approach should be applied to air quality," Steube said. "Our skies should never be treated as a testing ground for chemical or atmospheric manipulation."

The Air Quality Act aims to create a uniform federal prohibition on activities intended to affect weather, temperature or sunlight intensity, such as weather modification or geoengineering activities.

The bill establishes clear criminal and civil penalties for anyone who knowingly releases substances into the atmosphere for the purpose of altering environmental conditions.

"It is important for the American people to trust that their government does not support or fund weather modification activities, nor does it permit rogue actors who attempt to pollute our air," Steube said. "The Air Quality Act establishes much-needed national enforcement and accountability standards."

Steube said the act is not speculation or a conspiracy theory, but instead is about strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence.
