The lasting scars from the plane crash on I-75 2 years ago

A private jet crash on I-75, in Collier County two years ago, left a lasting impact on the drivers who witnessed it.

Two people died and three survived, but the memories remain vivid for those who were there.

Kyle Cavalier was one of those drivers on the highway that day.

"As I'm driving down 75, something caught the corner of my eye. And when I looked I saw an airplane that was running real low," said Cavalier.

Cavalier, who captured video just seconds after the crash, recalled the surreal experience.

"It was an instant, but it felt like it was a while. And they say that you perceive things differently. I don't remember hearing it. I can see it but I didn't hear it," said Cavalier.

Instead of continuing on his way, Cavalier pulled over, got out, and rushed to help.

"When I saw the first person get out of the plane and start running I ran across 75 and went to help them," said Cavalier.

His video shows the tense moments as he ran towards the wreckage.

"Is there anybody else in there?" he asked

"Yes. The pilots. Are they alive? We don't know," the passengers said.

Cavalier helped the survivors across the highway, where others drove them to safety. He remains amazed that anyone survived.

"Surprisingly, but, you know, very, very happy that at least they survived, and they didn't seem like they were very injured. They I didn't, I don't remember seeing any major injuries, cuts, bruises," said Cavalier.

The experience left a mark on Cavalier, affecting him for a long time.

"For the longest time, I had, like, almost like, PTSD. I'd hear a plane and I had to see it. I had to know where it was. Yeah, I couldn't, I couldn't just ignore it," said Cavalier.

Although life has returned to normal for Cavalier, he knows he will never forget the events of that day on I-75.
