Man accused of driving 100 mph while drunk, hopping away from deputies during stop in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

A man was arrested in Collier County on Monday after being accused of driving over 100 mph while drunk.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was conducting speed enforcement on Vanderbilt Beach Road at Oakes Boulevard when they saw a silver Kia Soul speed by at what the radar determined to be 96 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The deputy began pursuing the Kia as it continued east on Vanderbilt Beach Road and crossed onto Logan Boulevard at speeds of over 100 mph. The Kia then crossed Islandwalk Boulevard before slowing down and stopping on Pristine Drive, CCSO said.

The driver of the Kia was identified as Brent Alma-Francis, 41. Alma-Francis was ordered to step out of the vehicle, but then would not follow simple instructions, according to CCSO.

CCSO said that Alma-Francis began hopping around on the roadway as deputies attempted to secure him.

Alma-Francis was eventually secured, and while being detained, deputies noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Alma-Francis was transported to the Naples Jail Center and asked to perform standard field sobriety tests, which he failed, CCSO said.

Alma-Francis then refused to take a breathalyzer and became aggressive with deputies, according to CCSO.

Alma-Francis was arrested and faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, driving over 100 mph, DUI and refusal to submit to DUI testing.
