CAPE CORAL, Fla.—Cape Coral is buzzing with excitement as it hosts some of the world's top pickleball players. Fans have flocked to the city to witness the action at the Zimmer Biomet Cape Coral Open, drawing national attention and filling the stands.

Every car parked in a nearby grass field is there for one reason: pickleball. Just over the hill, day two of the tournament is underway.

"The pro play is much faster, much better, much more precise," said a fan, capturing the intensity of the matches.

The courts are alive with pros battling it out, amateurs honing their skills, and fans like Stewart Smith soaking in the atmosphere.

"It inspires you to say, 'Yeah, I want to be playing,'" said Smith.

The week-long tournament is building up to Championship Sunday, with organizers noting a significant surge in the sport's popularity since COVID-19. Full stands, packed brackets, and passionate fans reflect this growth.

For professionals like Blaine Hovenier, the stakes are high.

"You're coming to see the best players in the world this PPA Tour, where all the best players come to play, and we're all competing to see who's the best out here," said Hovenier.
