CROW in Sanibel rehabilitates bird hit by car

The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc., on Sanibel, is rehabilitating a bird believed to have been hit by a car.

According to a Facebook post, American kestrels have migrated back to Florida for the winter, and the clinic admitted its first kestrel of 2026. The kestrel was found lying in the middle of the street, likely after being hit by a car.

While the bird showed no obvious fractures or wounds, he was unable to stand and appeared very weak, CROW said.

CROW has provided ongoing supportive care to the kestrel and said that he is gradually recovering. The kestrel is now eating, perching independently, and making short flights.

CROW reminds residents to keep animals in mind when driving.
