Drivers on the hunt for parking on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. —

Drivers on Fort Myers Beach are facing challenges finding parking near Times Square.

Seasonal resident Kathy Kueppers said she and her husband often spend a while trying to find a space.

"It's frustrating and you're, you know, you're watching and you're driving and you're watching and you're driving," Kueppers said, "It's not safe."

Lynn Hall Memorial Park is a popular parking area with 107 spots. The town also offers more than 350 spaces throughout the island.

"You just scramble the first one in so it gets pretty tight at night now," seasonal resident Ron Flowers said.

Town leaders are planning to add another parking lot in the coming months.

Despite the parking struggles, people on the beach said they'd rather see tons of cars than no people at all.

"Ian destroyed so much, and it's very sad," Kueppers said. "But, it's nice to see some life coming back down here."

For those planning to visit the beach, arriving early is recommended to secure a parking spot. Lee County also offers 25 other beach parking locations throughout the county that you can find here.
