Stitches, Stories and Community: Quilt Show Returns to Charlotte Harbor

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - For quilters and craft lovers alike, this is a dream event stitched into reality. The Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild is hosting its biennial quilt show, filling the Charlotte Harbor Event Center with more than 200 handcrafted quilts on Feb. 13 and 14.

Each quilt on display represents thousands of hours of cutting, sewing and designing, with many pieces taking years to complete. The show highlights not only technical skill but also creativity, as quilts range from vivid jungle scenes to intricate geometric patterns and themed designs inspired by everything from children’s books to Christmas and even Crown Royal.

Winning quilts come down to one thing: the details. Guild member Sue Fox said the top entries stand out because of their complexity and originality.

“The quilts that won first and second place used countless techniques and imagination. It’s a matter of workmanship, color and design,” Fox said.

Judges look closely at stitching, color coordination, precision and the overall artistic vision of each piece.

As visitors walk through the show, they will notice many quilts grouped by theme. Some reflect patriotic designs inspired by the United States, while others focus on specific color palettes or storytelling through fabric. Each quilt tells a different story, turning thread and fabric into works of art.

Beyond the beauty of the display, the quilt show also serves a larger mission.Funds raised support the guild’s meeting space, provide training in quilting techniques and help offset the cost of more than 500 items members create and donate each year to local nonprofit organizations.

The guild regularly donates quilts and handmade items to Head Start, C.A.R.E., the Linus Project and the Animal Welfare League Shelter in Port Charlotte.

Community service is woven into the event itself. Attendees can take part in a hands-on project by sewing pillowcases for Ryan’s Case for Smiles, a nonprofit that delivers cheerful pillowcases to children in hospitals across the country. In 2025 alone, the Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild donated 255 pillowcases to the organization.

The show also offers more than just quilts to admire. Guests can shop in a boutique filled with handmade items, browse vendor booths, have knives and scissors professionally sharpened and bid in a basket auction featuring themed gift baskets.

With hundreds of quilts, interactive projects and a focus on giving back, the Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild’s quilt show stitches together art, craftsmanship and community, creating an event that is as meaningful as it is beautiful.
