CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Grocery prices are soaring, but residents in Cape Coral are finding a bit of relief at the local farmers' market. The market not only supports the community but also offers a more affordable option for fresh produce and goods.
The farmers' market in downtown Cape Coral is bustling with activity. Despite rising grocery prices, some vendors are lowering their prices.
"We always are cheaper at a farmers market," said Travis Washington from Bacon on a Stick.
Washington has been a fixture in downtown Cape Coral for three years, not just selling but serving the community.
"These people are loyal, and they're dedicated to their community, and that's our way of, you know, kind of helping out with inflation and things of that nature," said Washington.
Visitors like Carolyn Valenti make it a point to return each season and spend locally.
"It's the thing we have to do every time we come down. It's a tradition. We love the food that's here," said Valenti.
In a world where prices keep rising, the farmers' market offers a personal touch.
"We love all the different vendors checking out what they've got for sale, and we take home little treasures with us," said another visitor.
Washington emphasized the difference in pricing at the farmers' market compared to larger festivals.
"When we do a farmers market versus a huge like a music festival or a beer festival, a one-off event, we always lower our prices because we're feeding the community," said Washington.
For these vendors, profit is important, but compassion takes precedence on Saturday mornings in Cape Coral.
"It feels good. Wake up. Say hi, thank you, hello. Have a great day. God bless that feels good. And that means a lot to me, more than a whole lot of other things, compassion. It means everything," said a vendor.
Saturday is more than just business for these vendors; it's about community.
