VENICE, Fla. — Spring training has returned, and Atlanta Braves fans are eagerly gathering at Cool Today Park.
Fans filled the stands to get their first glimpse of the team in action during the open house event.
WINK News was on the scene, capturing the excitement as players took batting practice. Fans leaned over railings, hoping to catch a souvenir ball, and a long line formed around the concourse for a chance to meet Braves third baseman Austin Riley.
“Probably about 45 minutes to an hour, yep," said Chuck Allen, a Braves fan. "It means that much to meet Austin Riley? Absolutely, we're diehard Braves fans.”
The Allen family, originally from Georgia but now living in Florida, relished the opportunity to be part of the Braves' spring training atmosphere.
“It feels great to be back in Braves country,” said Allen.
For young Cooper Allen, it was his first time getting a major league autograph.
“I loved it, I've never done something like that before,” said Cooper.
For fans like the Allens, spring training offers more than just games.
“It gives you the opportunity to be involved in things like this, where you're closer to the players. And we met family, we're all Braves family when you're here… Braves… it’s in our blood,” said Jamie Farris, another Braves fan.
WINK News will be covering more of the spring training excitement on Monday, with live coverage from Cool Today Park. Stay tuned for all the action.
