DUI trial for Naples Mayor Heitmann set to start; plea hearing Monday

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann is facing charges of driving under the influence. Her jury trial is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

At 10 a.m., there will be a plea hearing. Up to this point, Heitmann has pleaded not guilty.

If she maintains her not guilty plea, jury selection will begin at 10:30 a.m.

This case has already experienced several delays, with multiple judges recusing themselves. There is also a motion to exclude certain evidence from the trial, including dash camera video from the night of Heitmann's arrest. The video reportedly shows Heitmann outside her vehicle during a field sobriety test.

Police said she had a blood alcohol level that was around twice the legal limit.

In 2024, Mayor Heitmann addressed the incident during a city council meeting.

"I am profoundly sorry for the impact that it has had on my friends, family, my constituents, city staff and the public," said Heitmann. "I am determined to earn back your trust and will continue to serve this community with the integrity and the dedication you deserve."

The plea hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow, followed by jury selection at 10:30 a.m., if needed.
