Lee County man accused of battery, attacking people with shovel

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

A man is accused of attacking multiple people with a shovel, Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies say.

According to an arrest report, deputies responded to calls at a residence where a man was attacking people with a shovel and forcing his way into the home. The report says that this was the third time deputies were called to the same home in one day.

When deputies arrived, they say, Dennis Williamson, 67, was outside the residence. They add that when they approached Williamson to detain him, he became aggressive. They say that Williamson then picked up a shovel that was lying on the ground and began to hit a wall of the house with it, close to a window where one of the victims was looking out from inside the house.

LCSO says that eventually Williamson dropped the shovel, but he made multiple attempts to pick it back up again before eventually being arrested.

While they were en route to the scene, LCSO says, another person stopped them and told deputies that Williamson had attacked them with a shovel. LCSO says the victim told deputies that they were at the house when Williamson used the shovel to break down the back sliding door. Williamson then reportedly rushed toward the victim and tried to hit them over the head with the shovel.

Williamson was taken to the Lee County Jail and charged with battery and aggravated assault with an attempt to commit a felony.
