Jury selection begins for trial of Immokalee man accused of killing a mother of 6 in 2019

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Nearly seven years after a deadly shooting in Immokalee claimed the life of Adriana Arredondo, court proceedings are moving forward in Collier County.

Malachi Montelongo, one of the men accused in the July 2019 shooting, is scheduled to appear before a judge at the Collier County Courthouse as his trial begins Monday morning.

Jury selection is set to start at 9 a.m.

Montelongo faces several serious charges, including second-degree murder. He was 17 years old at the time of his arrest.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Malachi Montelongo and his older brother, Jesus Montelongo, who was 19 at the time, drove to Amos Court in Immokalee, got out of their vehicle and opened fire on another car carrying three people.

Arredondo, 33, was killed. She was a mother of six.

Jesus Montelongo was found guilty in 2022 and is awaiting sentencing.
