Motorcyclist narrowly misses ICE protestors during demonstration on US-41 in south Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Protesters along U.S. 41 in Lee County near Daniels Parkway experienced tense moments Monday when a motorcyclist sped through the area, nearly clipping some of the demonstrators during an interview with chief political reporter Dave Elias.

Protesters were standing along the edge of the highway where the sidewalk meets the highway when a motorcyclist flew by, crossing the white line and narrowly missing them. "That was the first near-death experience I've seen at a protest," said Mike from The Landings.

Cory Andrews, a demonstrator, said, "He did come pretty close, and that's threatening."

Jim Rosinus, chairman of the Lee County Democratic Party, warned people to stay vigilant. "We want people to keep their eyes open. Things like that are extremely rare," he said.

Despite the incident, the Presidents Day protest continued. Nehemie Fluerent, a protester, said, "I feel like today is a perfect day because we do not stand with President Trump."

Others were protesting the ICE raids.

"I was a police officer for 27 years, and I know the right way to do things, and this is not," said Dor, another protester.

A couple of hundred people showed up, marking one of several protests along the Gulf Coast.
