A North Fort Myers man was arrested early Saturday after deputies said he fired a handgun at an occupied pickup truck outside a Golden Road home during a late-night dispute.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office booking report, the shooting was reported about 10:28 p.m. Friday at a home on Golden Road in North Fort Myers.
Two victims told deputies they arrived at a home to pick up a friend and honked the horn in the driveway. That's when they say a woman came outside yelling at them, quickly followed by a man with a handgun.
According to the report, the man, James Wolfgang Michaud, 33, fired two to three times, striking the truck's windshield, headlights and interior roof.
Deputies said the pair drove away and called 911 near the intersection of Golden Road and Slater Road.
A resident at the suspect's home told investigators that Michaud fired to "scare" the driver at a downward angle, according to the report, which deputies say was inconsistent with the damage to the vehicle.
Another witness stated she feared for her life, but admitted that the victim never made a threat of violence, advanced closer, got out of their truck, or showed any weapons, according to the report.
A tactical team later cleared the home and detained James Wolfgang Michaud, 33, and deputies found a black semi-automatic handgun in a bedroom.
Michaud was booked Saturday morning. He faces charges of shooting at or into an occupied vehicle and discharging a firearm in public or on residential property.
He is expected to appear in court next on March 3 at the Lee County Justice Center in Fort Myers.
