Two teenagers were arrested after being accused of fleeing from deputies on e-bikes in Villas.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were conducting an area check at Bell Tower when they saw two teenage boys driving e-bikes recklessly in the parking lot.
The boys were performing wheelies and almost hitting pedestrians, LCSO said.
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but both boys fled south on Cleveland Avenue, using the sidewalk and weaving through traffic, LCSO said.
LCSO's Aviation Unit began to assist deputies and tracked the two teens to a home. Deputies arrived at the home and detained both of the boys, identified as 15-year-old Adrian Cruz and 13-year-old Tony Burgos.
Both Cruz and Burgos face charges of obstruction without violence, fleeing and eluding and reckless driving.
"Our Aviation Unit plays a critical role in the safety and security of Lee County," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. "Thanks to the swift coordination between our deputies on the ground and our team in the air, these juveniles were quickly found and held accountable for endangering themselves and others. I will not tolerate recklessness of any kind on our roadways."
