FDA updates peanut butter recall affecting 40 states

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

The Food and Drug Administration has updated an existing recall of peanut butter products, affecting more than 22,000 single-serve items distributed to 40 states, including Florida, due to contamination concerns.

The recall includes peanut butter packets and small cups containing both peanut butter and jelly, produced by Ventura Foods and sold to distributors, mostly under private label brands.

Pieces of blue plastic were found in a filter at the facility where the products are made.

The FDA's new designation for the recall is Class Two, meaning consuming the product could cause temporary illness, but not likely anything serious or life-threatening.
