CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Spring training has kicked off in Charlotte County, bringing excitement as the Tampa Bay Rays begin their preparations for the upcoming season. The team is buzzing with energy as they welcome new additions, including Gavin Lux, a two-time World Series champion.
Lux expressed his enthusiasm for returning to his preferred position at second base after spending much of last season in the outfield with the Reds.
"Last year, I played a lot of outfield, which was kind of new to me. So I think getting back on the dirt, when I found out about the trade, I was really excited for that piece of it," said Lux.
With full squad workouts now underway, Lux is eager to integrate with his teammates.
"I think the most important thing in the spring is getting around everyone and everyone getting comfortable and starting to build that culture, so once the first game of the season starts, we can hit the ground running and go," he said.
Lux, with his experience in high-pressure games, is ready to contribute to the team's success.
"I think those are experiences that are really important, and you kind of learn how to control your emotions in big games like that. Playoffs are so much fun to be a part of, and just whatever I can do to help in the clubhouse and in the dugout and on the field to hopefully get us there, that's what I'm looking forward to," said Lux.
Fans in Charlotte County are also thrilled about the return of baseball.
"Spring training. It's exciting. It's the beginning of the season. Everyone's going to win a division. And they're a fun team and a fan-friendly team," said Bill Hickey, a Tampa Bay Rays fan.
Hickey attends spring training every year and is optimistic about the team's prospects this season.
"They've picked up a lot of really good players this year. Make the playoffs. They've got the people that can do it," he said.
The Tampa Bay Rays continue to build momentum at Charlotte Sports Park, aiming for a strong start to the season.
