Lehigh Acres crash involving deputy leaves residents in shock

A multi-vehicle crash involving a Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy shut down part of 23rd Street Southwest in Lehigh Acres this morning. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported minor injuries.

Juan Hernandez, a Lehigh Acres resident, was inside his home when he heard the incident.

"It's like three or four in the morning, and then I hear this loud, bang," said Hernandez. "And I also heard like something like dragging across the ground. And I was going like that, sound like it’s right on my yard."

Hernandez says he was shocked when he stepped outside.

"I kind of was shocked in the beginning and the first thing I see is a law enforcement officer's car upside down," said Hernandez.

Several of his vehicles were hit, and he said this was not the first time a crash had ended up on his property.

"There's three cars in the driveway, and they were all like, facing different directions because the law enforcement car had impacted them," said Hernandez. "This is the second time an accident on that road has landed on my property."

Camayah Watson, another resident, described the crash as terrifying.

"That was terrifying for me, because imagine if the cop car would have gone into like, my room, like, that's really scary," said Watson. "And a lot of car accidents, they do happen and on this road, so I get really scared."

Hernandez urged drivers to exercise caution.

"People need to slow down a little bit. Be more patient," said Hernandez. "There's a lot more people in town now, because it's the season.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that only minor injuries were reported.
