2025 bald eagle nesting season starts strong on Sanibel, Captiva

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Staff and volunteers with the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation have been monitoring the bald eagle nests across Sanibel and Captiva for the 2025 nesting season.

According to SCCF, four of the five known nests on Sanibel have hatched, including the "Dairy Queen nest," where two eaglets have hatched.

On Captiva, three monitored nests have hatched five chicks, SCCF says. Although the nest on North Captiva was deemed less successful and it failed after a territorial dispute between adult eagles.

Bald eagle nesting season runs in Florida from Oct. 1 to May 15.
