CROW rescues infant otter separated from its mother

An infant North American river otter was recently rescued and transported to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel after being found without its mother.

Prolonged separation at this age can be life-threatening.

CROW provided intensive care for three days, including bottle-feedings and close monitoring.

However, due to Hurricane Ian's destruction of their otter enclosure, CROW transferred the kit to a facility with the necessary resources for its growth.

CROW is working on rebuilding their otter enclosure, thanks to generous donors.

North American river otters are an indicator species that reflect the health of their ecosystem. In Florida, they inhabit marshes, rivers, lakes, and canals.
