A man in Collier County who is accused of sexually abusing a child in 1998 was arrested on Tuesday, the Collier County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the sheriff's office report, Richard Gutierrez, 64, was arrested after a potential victim of his reportedly told deputies that he sexually abused them as a child. The report adds that Gutierrez met them through the "Big Brother Big Sister Program."
The victim reportedly lived in a toxic household, and at one point was placed under the care of Gutierrez by the Department of Children and Families. It was while under his care that he sexually abused them, the report says.
Deputies say that there was a prior report of sexual abuse by Gutierrez taken in 2009.
Deputies charged Gutierrez with sexual battery by a custodian with a victim under 12 and sexual battery by a custodian with a victim 12 to 18 years old.
