A 64-year-old Sarasota man died after he was hit by a truck while standing next to his vehicle on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County on Wednesday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-75 Southbound near Mile Marker 202, just three miles south of Clark Road in Sarasota.
Troopers said a 1999 Peterbilt tractor cab and trailer was traveling in the right travel lane, and the Sarasota man had parked his vehicle in the paved shoulder and was standing next to it.
As the truck approached, the man stepped into its path and was hit by the front right corner of the truck.
The Sarasota man was pronounced dead on the scene by Sarasota County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel.
FHP said its traffic homicide unit is investigating the incident.
