FORT MYERS, Fla.—A special moment is set to unfold at Hammond Stadium as the Minnesota Twins take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in an exhibition game.
This Minnesota matchup has become a spring training tradition, bringing a taste of home to Southwest Florida.
Fans are excited for the game, which offers a blend of major league talent and hometown pride all on one field. Rex and Arlene Holzemer, Minnesota natives, have been attending Hammond Stadium for years.
"The Gophers and the Twins. How can you beat that? You got two Minnesota teams playing each other for both of them, and it's like, okay, who are you going to choose? So it'll be both. Well, cheer them both on," said Arlene Holzemer.
"I didn't play baseball in college, but I just have to believe, anytime you've got the chance to come out and play with the pros, it's got to be a really pretty neat experience for you," said Rex Holzemer.
The first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. on Friday at Hammond Stadium. Fans are eagerly anticipating this unique matchup.
